Our mission is to recognize the skill and talent
James "Trey" Smith is a local teacher and writer. Originally from Louisiana, he has adopted New Mexico as his home. Trey completed both undergraduate and graduate school at the University of New Mexico. Trey enjoys reading, writing, being outside, spending time with his wife and their dog, and exploring our beautiful state. He is currently a Humanities Instructor and was an event coordinator for UNM in his previous career. In 2011, Trey was named one of New Mexico's Top 40 Under Forty by New Mexico Business Weekly. Trey has also written for several local and national publications. He has been happily married for three years and still enjoys commentating on the experience of being a groom, as he was heavily involved in the wedding planning process.
Denise Nava grew up in Silver City, New Mexico, where she graduated from Silver High School in 2005. Denise's family still resides in Silver City, while her brother lives in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Denise attended college at New Mexico State University where she received her bachelor's degree in Journalism and Mas Communications in 2009. At NMSU, Denise was a news reporter at the student newspaper on campus, The Round-Up. She was also a part of the student-run dance company, Dancer's Unlimited, where she was the publicity chair during her senior year.
Denise currently resides in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she is attending graduate school at the University of New Mexico. She is working on attaining her Master's Degree in Public Administration. She is currently a part of the Big Brother, Big Sister program and works in advertising. Denise enjoys dancing, reading and being with her friends and family. Her favorite hobby is going to see concerts of her favorite bands, which includes the Black Keys. Denise has been writing for the past seven years and now writes for New Mexico Event and Wedding Magazine for the Bridal Corner. She enjoys writing and giving advice to those brides-to-be, who are looking for smart and quick ideas when planning a wedding.
